Local

  • Pet Licensing Form: licensing services for Bellevue, Gretna, La Vista, Omaha (includes areas in Douglas County up to three miles outside the Omaha city limits), Papillion, Ralston, Springfield, Unincorporated Sarpy County and Waterloo.

Health

  • ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center: This is the website of the ASPCA’s Animal Poison Control Center. This is a hotline manned 24/7 for calls, but a consultation fee may apply. You can also access the ASPCA’s free library about plants, foods and other substances that are toxic to pets.
  • Heartworm Society: Everything you ever wanted to know about heartworm disease can be found here!
  • West Nile Virus: This site is maintained by the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta, and has the latest information on the spread of West Nile Virus in the US, as well as information on disease transmission, symptoms, etc.

General Care

  • Choosing a New Puppy: This is a nice starter guide of things that you should consider when you are thinking about getting a puppy.

Shelters & Rescues

  • Heartland German Shepherd Rescue: (HUGS) is a Nebraska-licensed, all-volunteer, 501c3 non-profit dog rescue organization. Focus on saving German Shepherd dogs at risk of being euthanized in shelters or other dire situations. 
  • Hands Hearts and Paws: a foster home based dog rescue in Omaha, NE that takes in all breeds.
  • Little White Dog: An all-volunteer group dedicated to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome small dogs. 
  • Nebraska Humane Society: saves and enriches the lives of animals in the communities they serve; they also provide education, give sanctuary to animals, encourage adoptions, and promote responsible pet ownership. 
  • Promise 4 Paws Dog Sanctuary: A sanctuary for senior dogs, providing a loving, home-like environment for senior dogs for the remainder of their lives.  
  • Feline Friendz in Nebraska: comprised of dedicated volunteers whose mission is to end the killing of cats and be their advocate for their humane treatment.
  • Muddy Paws: an all-species rescue that believes that every pet deserves to be happy and loved. 
  • Nebraska Wildlife Rehab: provide medical management and compassionate care for injured, sick, and orphaned wild, native Nebraska species and migratory birds. Working closely with veterinarians and other wildlife and health professionals, their goal is to rehabilitate the wildlife in our temporary care for reintroduction to the appropriate wild habitat.
