Acupuncture

Healing Through Alternative Medicine

Acupuncture is a 3000-year-old Chinese practice utilizing hair-thin needles to stimulate the body’s nerve centers, improving blood circulation and releasing pain-relieving hormones. This virtually painless process relaxes muscle tissue and oxygenates the surrounding area, allowing the body to heal more rapidly.

Many disorders can be treated with veterinary acupuncture, including:

  • Neurologic and soft tissue pain
  • Arthritis
  • Joint pain
  • Allergies
  • Gastrointestinal issues
  • Skin conditions
  • Respiratory distress
  • Lick granulomas
  • Intervertebral disc disease (IVDD)
  • Tissue healing
  • Immune system support
  • Chronic conditions: asthma, cough, renal failure, chronic liver disease, behavioral problems, thyroid issues, geriatric weakness
  • Quality of life, cancer and hospice care

Acupuncture is one of the safest veterinary treatments available. It requires no pharmaceutical assistance, removing the possibility of overdose and adverse reactions, and can be used with most other traditional and alternative treatments.

What to Expect During an Acupuncture Session

During your pet’s acupuncture session, our veterinarian will conduct a thorough exam of your pet and discuss their medical history and current health issues. Our veterinarian will then select the appropriate acupoints and gently insert the sterile needles. Most pets tolerate the needles and may even become relaxed or sleepy during the treatment.

The number of sessions required depends on the condition being treated and your pet's response to the therapy. Some pets may show improvement after just one or two sessions, while others may require ongoing treatment.

Omaha Vets Group is thrilled to offer this service at our Skyline Veterinary Clinic in Elkhorn. Dr. Samantha Ryan is certified in veterinary acupuncture and is ready to help your pet.
